The work will be split between the crematorium and the cattery with some lighter groundwork occasionally required in the Cemetery More cattery work is likely to be needed during the holiday seasons.

Weekend Cleaning Work.        8 March 2010

We currently require weekend staff for Saturdays and /or Sundays. The hours are from 9am to 1pm. The work involves the cleaning of the cattery chalets. Full training is given and someone is always available to provide supervision. You will be working from a list of chalets and you will be required to work to a fast and high standard. Although you are working around other people the actual work is carried out on your own so the main interaction is with the cats. This is in the form of company while you are cleaning as there is no time for stroking or playing while the cleaning is being carried out.

The work involves removing all items from inside the chalet, brushing down bedding and sweeping the shelves and floors. These are then wiped over with a Trigene disinfectent solution and dried. The inside of the chalet is then put back with the beds and bedding on the shelves, the fresh litter trays in the corners and the food and water bowls placed tidily on one side. The same process is then carried out on the the run area. Cleaning utensils are then washed and disinfected and the process repeated until the list of chalets is completed.

We start you off on this cleaning routine. Once you have learnt this and have achieved a good standard we introduce other tasks such as the major cleaning of the chalets after the cats have gone home, setting up chalets for new boarders, hosing and disinfecting cattery items, disinfecting and washing water bowls and putting through the laundry. For those who want to learn more then more resonsible jobs include changing litter trays and monitoring thier use, feeding and grooming of the cats. Once you reach this level then a full days work may be available.

The starting pay rate for someone with no experience will be £5.75 per hour. This will go up to £6 per hour as soon as the basic cleaning work is mastered to a reasonable speed and quality. As other jobs are added then the pay rate will increase in increments up to £6.50 per hour. Holidays are given at a rate of 5.6 weeks per year and accrue on the number of hours worked. Bank and Public holidays are considered as normal working days if they fall on the rota.

The work is a fairly hard physical job and does require a reasonable level of fitness. As you are kneeling and getting up and down then it is not suitable for people with back or leg injuries or weaknesses.

We normally take on students for these positions and extra work is available during school and university holiday times. Other people may apply but we ask you to please consider carefully if you can work to a reliable schedule. We have found that if you have another job this often takes first call on your time. Working with animals requires repetition of the same routine every day of the year and we therefore need to be able to rely on our staff to turn up for work when expected.

If you are interested and wouold like to come along for interview then phone us on 01342 712976 or email sylvesters@clpets.co.uk
